ODH ESTABLISHES SWINE FLU INFORMATION LINE

 The Ohio Department of Health has established a toll-free information line

for Ohioans with questions about swine flu.

The information line – 1-866-800-1404 – is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Monday through Friday; ODH will reassess hours of operation as the situation warrants,

according to Bret Atkins, public information officer.

The Ohio Department of Health has confirmed a number of cases of swine flu in Ohio and is working with partners to confirm any other possible cases.

To lessen their chances of becoming ill, the health department reports that

Ohioans should: wash their hands frequently or use alcohol-based hand

sanitizers if soap and water are unavailable; avoid touching their eyes, nose or mouth;

cover coughs and sneezes with tissue, if tissue is unavailable, cough into your sleeve;

stay home when sick; and keep your distance from people with respiratory symptoms.

Also, getting enough rest, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and getting 30 or more

minutes of physical activity most days of the week will help residents boost

their immunity and reduce the chances of getting sick.

More information is available from the hotline, or Atkins, at 614-799-6480

or go to www.odh.ohio.gov .

Noise restricted in Liberty Township

To promote peace and tranquility, Liberty Township Trustees have adopted noise regulations [Resolution 11-C-06] that prohibits excessive noise in residential areas and certain premises where liquor is sold.  Among other things the noise resolution applies to:

  • Private construction activities after 9 p.m. and before 6:30 a.m. DST (7 a.m. EST), and before 10 a.m. on Sundays.

  • Horns, music, amplified sound, power equipment other than mowers, trimmers, chain saws, or tillers, and unreasonably long periods of repeated discharging of firearms.

  • Excessive noise from motor vehicles.

Prohibited noises are those audible at a distance of 100 feet or more from the property from which the noise emanates.

The resolution provides for several exceptions, including construction, repairs and maintenance of homes and outbuildings, accessory buildings, or yards.

The Fairfield County Sheriff is responsible for enforcement.

The resolution provides that the township trustees shall seek injunctive relief against people who violate the resolution and provides that a person aggrieved by another person’s violation of the regulation may seek civil action.

            The resolution was adopted pursuant to Ohio Rev. Code § 505.172.                           Violations are a misdemeanor of the second degree.
